A drawing or painting is a moment in time, a frozen piece of the thoughts and feelings of the artist who seeks to draw the viewer into the canvas. It stirs our emotions, creates a mood and reflects the spirit of the artist.

Drawing with colored pencil is Kendra's fascination, but she also enjoys watercolor and pastel, often combining the media. Colored pencil allows her to combine the expressiveness of painting with the fine line and detail of drawing. The control and precision of the pencils allow an ordinary subject to be made extraordinary. Drawings are achieved by building up layer upon layer of pencil; using different colors so they mingle on the paper or create value and luminescence. She often works on a colored paper background to create color harmony or drawing vellum in which the image can be drawn on both sides. Textured papers give dimension and pattern to the illustrations. Sometimes a piece is begun with watercolor washes and then colored pencil is added. Intricate shapes, color, value and shadow all capture Kendra's imagination. The control and precision of the pencils allow an ordinary subject to be made extraordinary.
